Palin on Star: She's a dynamic leader who is committed to building a more prosperous environment for the families in her district and ushering in positive change.
Sarah Palin endorses Star Parker for Congress

Congressional Candidate Star Parker today announced former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has endorsed her campaign to represent the people of the 37th District in south Los Angeles County. On Thursday, Gov. Palin praised Star's 'incredible story' and 'passionate commitment to her community and our great nation.'
Highlighting Star's work to strengthen parents and families in Los Angeles and across the country, Gov. Palin said in her endorsement:
"I'm proud to endorse Star Parker for California's 37th Congressional District. Star has an incredible story and a passionate commitment to her community and our great nation. Rising up from being a single mom on welfare, Star worked hard to build a non-profit network that seeks to reduce poverty and create a brighter future for America by promoting free market solutions and personal responsibility.
"There is no doubt that she will bring a new level of enthusiasm and energy to Washington for American values, limited government, and economic growth. She's a dynamic leader who is committed to building a more prosperous environment for the families in her district and ushering in positive change. Please join me in supporting Star and her message of hope, opportunity, and self-reliance."
"It's an honor to receive Sarah Palin's endorsement," Parker said. "Gov. Palin has lead an upsurge movement of Americans from all walks of life committed to restoring traditional values, limited government, free markets and a strong national defense. I'm proud to stand with Sarah Palin and the hard-working Americans fight against the ongoing encroachment of freedom and American values."
Before her involvement in social activism, Star was a single welfare mother living in Los Angeles, California. After a Christian conversion, she returned to college, received her degree and created a small business in south Los Angeles, which was later destroyed during the 1992 L.A. riots. Star turned the loss of her business into a springboard for her advocacy of free market economic solutions to help revive America's urban communities.
Today, in addition to heading CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, Star is a syndicated columnist for Scripps News Service, offering weekly op-eds to more than 300 newspapers worldwide, including The Boston Herald, The Dallas Morning News, Orange County Register, Korean Times, The Washington Times, and the Star and Stripes, the largest paper serving the men and women of our Armed Forces. Star has authored three books, her autobiography, Pimps, Whores & Welfare Brats, Uncle Sam's Plantation, and White Ghetto: How Middle Class America Reflects Inner City Decay.
Parker is challenging Rep. Laura Richardson (D-CA-37), a one-term Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) incumbent, in a district where the demographics have shifted away from the traditional CBC constituency over the past seven years.
California's 37th Congressional District encompasses Long Beach, Signal Hill, Carson, Compton, and parts of Los Angeles. Located in south Los Angeles County, the district is highly diverse ethnically, with almost half its residents being of Hispanic decent, a quarter African-American, and the rest a mix of Caucasian, Asian-American, and other ethnic groups.
