America is embracing authentic feminism -- one which returns to its suffragist, pro-life roots.
Susan B. Anthony List endorses Star Parker
Star Parker, the Republican candidate seeking to unseat pro-abortion Democratic incumbent Rep. Laura Richardson in California's 37th congressional district, was among eight candidates endorsed yesterday by the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee.
The 37th congressional district includes Long Beach, Compton, Carson and Signal Hill. According to Project Vote Smart, "Richardson supported the interests of NARAL Pro-Choice America 100 percent in 2009. Representative Richardson supported the interests of Planned Parenthood 100 percent in 2008. Based on a point system, with points assigned for actions in support of or in opposition to Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California's position, Representative Richardson received a rating of 100."
"The emerging Year of the Pro-Life Woman is the most resounding affirmation of the SBA List's mission since our founding," said SBA List Candidate Fund president Marjorie Dannenfelser in a prepared statement accompanying the announcement of yesterday's endorsements. "America is embracing authentic feminism – one which returns to its suffragist, pro-life roots. These women are the brightest stars of a populist, pro-woman, pro-life grassroots movement that is determined to return the strength of femininity to feminism."
Parker has this to say about abortion on her campaign website: "Rather than recognizing that every human being is unique and free, created in God's image, socialism tries to turn us into laboratory rodents, pretending to manage our lives according to predictable formulas. A recent Gallup poll reflects that 51% of Americans are now Pro-Life. Even former Planned Parenthood director, Abby Johnson, has confirmed that her former organization tries to instill in its employees and women who seek abortions that their wombs carry nothing but a mass of cells. Taxpayers, especially in light of their faith, should not be forced to support abortion with their hard-earned dollars."
Parker also supports parental notification when a minor seeks an abortion. "In my state of California, a school official can remove your minor daughter from the school and facilitate an abortion without so much as notifying you the parent," Parker says on her campaign website. "Yet these same school officials cannot administer so much as an aspirin without your written permission. Their goal: control and indoctrination as early in life as possible."
Parker is the founder and president of CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal & Education, a 501(c)3 non-profit think tank that explores and promotes market-based public policy to fight poverty.
"Prior to her involvement in social activism, Star Parker was a single welfare mother in Los Angeles, California," says her campaign biography. "After receiving Christ, Star returned to college, received a BS degree in marketing and launched an urban Christian magazine. The 1992 Los Angeles riots destroyed her business, yet served as a springboard for her focus on conservative activism.
"As a social policy consultant, Star Parker gives regular testimony before the United States Congress, and is a national expert on major television and radio shows across the country. Currently, Star is a regular commentator on CNN, CNBC, CBN, FOX News, and the United Kingdom's BBC. She has debated Jesse Jackson on BET; fought for school choice on Larry King Live; defended welfare reform on the Oprah Winfrey Show, debated Michael Moore regarding healthcare reform on The View, and spoke at the 1996 Republican National Convention."
With the eight endorsements yesterday, the Susan B. Anthony List has now endorsed 30 pro-life women running for office in the current election cycle. The organization earlier endorsed Republican Carly Fiorina to challenge incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer for U.S. senator from California. The SBA List spent $215,000 to help Fiorina win the Republican primary.
"The Susan B. Anthony List plans to spend $6 million on voter education in the midterm elections," says a news release from the organization, "including $3 million on key Senate races."
