Our Californian cities were founded on dreams of prosperity and opportunity for our children. Star Parker knows that dream because she lived it and achieved it in LA County by building her own business through hard work in spite of the odds. Star Parker is standing up for the people in CD37 who still believe in the Californian dream and know that there can be a brighter future.

Carson

Initially an unincorporated portion of Los Angeles, in 1968 Carson moved to change its entire profile, incorporating itself, implementing strict building and landscaping codes, and working to attract successful new business ventures.

Compton

Originally know as a Hub City due to its being in the center of Los Angeles, under the direction of the Community Redevelopment Agency, beginning in the 1970s and into the 1990s, Compton embarked on a transformation project of more than 1500 acres of unused and underutilized land into the Walnut Industrial Park. Compton greeted the 21st Century as a multiracial, multicultural community of nearly 100,000 residents hoping to further realize its vision of an industrial nucleus, thereby bringing improved job opportunities.

Long Beach and Signal Hill

In July of 1887 the City of Long Beach incorporated. Oil was discovered in Signal Hill in 1921, and with the already flourishing Port of Long Beach, which officially opened in 1911, Long Beach became the biggest producer in California.

The construction of a U.S. Naval base in Long Beach Harbor helped to bring jobs, and the opening of California State University (CSLB) in 1949, and the Long Beach Convention Center in 1978 which helped bring the 1984 Olympics to the city, helped make Long Beach a thriving community.

Today Long Beach is a thriving water destination for tourists in addition to its Port being the second largest in the country. Signal Hill continues to produce oil. However, with the threat of Cap & Trade, both Signal Hill and Long Beach, once a picturesque setting of opportunity, face economic uncertainty.
